Welcome to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings in Colorado Springs! Situated between Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks Canyon Open Space, this incredible site offers an unforgettable experience to visitors young and old. Archaeologists believe that these dwellings were constructed by Native American Ancestors over 700 years ago.
The Manitou Cliff Dwellings are composed of eight Puebloans structures made from stacked sandstone blocks, many of which still stand today. As you wander through this historical village you’ll get a chance to explore ancient kivas, bedrock mortars, ceremonial altars and watch towers. You can climb up into one of the two-story Casa Grande structures to get a better look at the unique architecture of these dwellings.
Besides admiring these ancient ruins, visitors may also enjoy interactive demonstrations such as grinding corn and throwing a spear; tools used by Ancestral Puebloans centuries ago. As you make your way around the village be sure to also check out our collection of artifacts found here including pottery shards, tools and weapons made from stone or wood that give us insight into how life was centuries ago.
Manitou Cliff Dwellings is set in a stunning backdrop surrounded by tall pines and towering red rocks which really helps bring alive the experience for our guests.
